Welcome to the lerntor.ch Use of English trainer.

Start
The Use of English trainer is a learning tool designed to help you understand the Use of English of the Cambridge English First and to help you improve your exam performance in this part of the exam.

From the ‘Menu’ you can choose which part you want to train by clicking on the corresponding button. For each part there are 6 practice texts.

Before you start practising with the trainer, we would like to draw your attention to several features which will support your learning experience:

Feedback
You receive immediate feedback for both correct and incorrect answers. If your answer is correct, the feedback will explain why the answer is correct in the context. Sometimes there is a 'Note', which provides additional information about grammar or vocabulary.

If your answer is incorrect, the feedback will either explain why the answer is incorrect or tell you what type of words or structures are missing in the context.

Clues
If you have difficulty finding the correct answer, you can click on the ‘Clues’ button. The step-by-step clues are designed to help you find the correct answer. Some parts are highlighted in bold. The purpose of this is to show you the key words which help you to find the correct answer.

Show me the answer

If you cannot find the solution on your own, click on the ‘Show me the answer’ button. This will show you the correct answer (in part 1 also the incorrect answers) with a full feedback. This feedback will also appear when you click inside a gap you have already answered.

The purpose of the clues and feedback is to encourage you to look at the context and to think about the steps that are involved in finding the correct answer. This is a useful exam strategy which will help you to improve your score. We also hope that by practising with the trainer you will be able to extend your knowledge of vocabulary and grammatical structures.
You can download additional information and examples for each part from our ‘Resources list’.
We hope you will enjoy working with our trainer and learn a lot from it.
